Climbing & Abseiling
The rock faces of the Ardennes are a real attraction for climbing enthusiasts. In the village of Hotton, there is also a well-known climbing area just a 5-minute walk from our park. This beautifully situated climbing massif offers several challenging pitches, ranging from impressive chimneys to attractive slab routes. We often hear that 'La Big Ben' is considered by many climbers to be one of the most beautiful slab routes in Belgium.
The limestone cliffs consist of five large sections located close to one another.
- Massif 'Avals'
- Massif 'Amonts': a recommended route is the difficult slab climb l'Elisabeth 7a; please note that some of the bolts are in poor condition
- Massif 'Rénissart': this is the main wall and is 35 m high
- Massif 'Fré Diame': this route goes above the water!
- Massif 'Mandille'
We recommend climbing here in spring, summer and autumn. The rocks face almost directly south. When it rains, the area can become quite muddy. In general, the bolting is good, and because the routes are climbed frequently, the easier routes can often be polished and slippery.
There are around 100 routes with the following grade distribution:
3:9, 4:31, 5:19, 6:19, 7:6
It's time to enjoy
