The Count's Castle of Rochefort

Located right in the center of the town of Rochefort, within walking distance of the Moulin de Rochefort, is the 'Count's Castle of Comtal'. The town of Rochefort owes its name to this Château, which dates back to the 12th century. This is because the castle was formerly called 'Rocha Fortis', which means 'fortified rock'. Together with this castle, this historic town thus originated.

Over time, the castle had several owners until it was abandoned in the 19th century. After more than 100 years of inactivity, the castle was opened to the public in 1987 and classified as a monument. Today, it is possible to visit this castle for both families and large groups. On certain days, it is even possible to play an escape game/escape room. Highly recommended for families!
