City of Namur

Namur is the capital of Wallonia and of the province of Namur. At the foot of the citadel, along the banks of the Sambre and Meuse rivers, you will find the Walloon Parliament. The city is also well known as a student city. The University of Namur has several faculties spread throughout the city, giving the historic centre of Namur a lively atmosphere. Around the city's historic buildings, you will often come across groups of students, which in turn has helped create a wide variety of small, trendy restaurants and bars. As soon as the sun comes out, terraces appear on many of the city's charming squares. While walking through Namur's old town, you will notice that many historic buildings are still in excellent condition. A large number of them were badly damaged during the First and Second World Wars, but were carefully restored afterwards.
